Religious Education Program for Grades 7 & 8

This critical ministry continues the tradition of instructing our children in the fundamentals of faith, doctrine, tradition, and scripture as we try to bring each child into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. The focus is on experiencing Christian community in our liturgies, in class, and through community outreach. Men and women of faith who enjoy working with children are invited to share their faith as catechists.  St. John’s offers both traditional classroom instruction as well as a Family Cluster model.

  • Classes for Grades 7 and 8 are held on Sunday evenings.  Students meet from 6pm to 7pm with volunteer teachers in classrooms in the Parish Center.   From 7pm to 8pm they meet in Philbin Hall for a Friends for Good gathering with pizza, a community building activity and prayer.
  • The classes use a specially designed curriculum intended not only to educate the students about our Catholic faith, but also to engage them in making connections between faith and their everyday lives. Throughout these two years, students study the Church, the Sacraments, Morality, Personal Safety, Scripture, the Creed, Social Justice, and Spirituality. The goal of this course of study is to assist the students in articulating their Catholic faith in both words and actions.
